Emin Alper was born in 1974 in Ermenek in the Turkish province of Karaman. He studied economics at Istanbul University and holds a PhD of modern Turkish history. He made his directorial debut in 2012 with the film "Over the Hill" which won several festival awards. Made three years later, “Blockade” was presented in the Main Competition at the Venice Film Festival winning the Special Jury Prize. His next film “A Tale of Three Sisters” (2018), which premiered at the Berlinale, was equally popular.
