Doru (played by brilliant Bogdan Dumitrache known for “Sieranevada”, “Child’s Pose”, and “The Death of Mr. Lazarescu”) lives and works in Göteborg, thousands of kilometres away from his wife Nicoletta and daughter Eliza. Ignoring pandemic restrictions, he suddenly leaves Sweden and comes back to his hometown in Romania under the pretence of participating in the baptism of his friend’s child. The true reason for his unexpected visit is different, though. He got an anonymous message that his wife was having an affair. Driven by obsession, Doru sniffs like a dog and checks all the possible tropes. No stone is left unturned: he has everyone from Nico’s entourage under observation. His suspiciousness amounts to an absurd level. Debuting director Stefan Constantinescu not only asks about what a jealous partner is capable of, but he also portrays a break-up of a family separated by emigration. Each member of the family, parents and a teenage daughter, create their own separate world. “Together and yet apart” is a motto many similar families live by. Their temporary parting unexpectedly becomes a trap and a test to their ties.
