"To a Land Unknown" takes viewers to the heart of Athens, where two friends, Chatila and Reda, face impossible choices in an attempt to escape the hardships of life on the margins of society. Desperate to provide himself and Reda with a better life in Germany, Chatila comes up with a risky plan: he wants to buy fake passports. When the money they have earned is squandered by Reda, Chatila devises an even more desperate plan. They decide to pose as smugglers and then take the recruited clients hostage - all in order to achieve their goal.
The film tells a thrilling and often dangerous story of human solidarity and cunning, confronted with the brutal reality of life in exile. The film has won acclaim around the world, as evidenced by a number of international awards and critical praise, confirming its power and relevance.
Mahdi Fleifel's direction, known for tackling difficult social and political issues, does not disappoint here either. His storytelling skills, which speak to both the heart and mind, are on full display, offering the audience not only entertainment but also deep reflection.
